8th ECA Festival, International Clarinet Contest

Date:  28-29th August 2018

Venue: Hungary – Győr, Széchenyi István University, Building of Varga Tibor Department of Music Faculty,

Contest rounds: pre-selection, local semi-final, final

The contest is organized for 2 age groups:

1st age group

2nd age group

DATE OF AWARD: 

29th August 2018. 7:30 p.m. Venue: Richter Hall (Győr Philharmonic Orchestra, 16. Aradi vértanúk útja, 9021 Győr – Hungary)

The maximum number of contestants by age group is 20. The organizers reserve the rights to pre-select the applicants on the basis of recorded performance if the number of applicants is higher than the maximum number to decide which 20 applicants per age group should take part in the local rounds.

The number of contestants in the final is maximum 6 per age group.

CONTEST PROGRAMME:

1st age group

PRE-SELECTION (material to be forwarded):

Mandatory piece of music:

Kovács Béla: Hommage á Bartók Béla (solo version)

Optional pieces of music (max. 1 piece of music must be chosen from them)
– Krommer: E-flat clarinet concerto I. movement, or
– Mercadante: B flat major clarinet concerto I. movement, or
– Stamitz: Concerto for Clarinet in E-flat Darmstadt Clarinet Concerto I.. movement

(The audio, or video recordings of the music pieces have to be forwarded to the e-mail address of the Festival until 15st June 2018 the latest – –  the recordings must be forwarded via WeTransfer.)

 1st ROUND (SEMI-FINAL)

The programme of the semi-final is equivalent with the material to be forwarded for pre-selection.

 2nd ROUND ( FINAL )

Mandatory piece of music:
– Donizetti: Studie

Optional pieces of music (max. 1 piece of music must be chosen):
– Weiner Leó: Peregi verbunk (Hungarian dances), or
– Lutoslawski: Dance Preludes  I. II. V. movements, or
– Bozza: Claribel

 2nd age group

PRE-SELECTION (material to be forwarded):
– Strawinsky: 3 pieces for clarinet, as well as
– M. von Weber: E-flat Clarinet concerto I. movement, or  III. movement, or
– Spohr: C-minor Clarinet concerto I. movement, or III. movement.

(The audio, or video recordings of the music pieces have to be forwarded to the e-mail address of the Festival until 15st June 2018 the latest – [email protected] –  the recordings must be forwarded via WeTransfer. YouTube link is also approved.)

1st ROUND ( SEMI-FINAL)

Manatory piece of music:
– Debussy: Rhapsody no I.

Optional pieces of music (max. 1 piece of music must be chosen):
– Sáry József : Stati per Quattro Tempi
– Lendvay Kamilló: Respectfully Yours Mr. Goodman
– Oláh Tibor: Solo Sonata
– Burkali Theodor: Clarisonus No. 2

2nd ROUND ( FINAL )

The programme of the final is equivalent with the material to be forwarded.

Awards:

This contest is not a prize contest. The award are provided by internationally recognized musical instrument manufacturers and sponsors (musical instruments, accessories and tools for musical instruments, etc.)

JURY

Pre-selection :
In case of both of the age groups the members of the jury delegated by the Hungarian Clarinet and Saxophone Society (MKSZT) will evaluate the recorded material forwarded by the applicants.

Local rounds :
 An international jury of 5 members will evaluate the performance of the contestant.
The contestants are provided with piano accompaniment by the organizers – on request.
Both of the rounds of the contest is public. The entrance for the audience is free.
